The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and vacuuming.
- Care for different types of floors (including but not limited to carpet, tile, VCT, wood) by hand and/or use of power equipment.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
- Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
- Gather and empty trash.
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
- Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
- Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after hours and checking electrical appliances to prevent hazards.
- Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building systems.
- Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas by spreading snow melting chemicals.
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding for events such as sporting events, banquets, and meetings.
- Job assignments may vary from facility to facility with possible transfers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Employees must frequently stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate. Extended periods of walking and standing are required. Occasionally, employees must sit. The ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds is required, with frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as focus adjustment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment may include exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions, with noise levels usually moderate. Reviews will be conducted at 90 days, 6 months, and annually during the first year. All jobs are considered temporary and contingent on performance and meeting requirements.
