Custodian/Facilities Support

WAGE/

HOURS:

DOE, Entry-level wage is $18.96 / 40 hours per week

Looking for a job with great benefits, steady work and a place where what you do matters?

The East Bonner County Library District is looking for a dependable, hands-on Custodian/Facilities Support team member to help keep the Sandpoint Library clean, safe, comfortable, and running smoothly.

This is more than just a cleaning position. We're looking for someone who takes pride in a well-maintained building, notices when something needs attention, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and take care of it. Mechanical aptitude, general facility maintenance skills, and experience doing minor repairs or general furniture and display assembly is a big plus.

What You'll Do

You'll help take care of a busy public facility that serves thousands of people in our community. Your work will include:

  • Keeping public spaces, offices, restrooms, meeting rooms, breakrooms, floors, windows, and work areas clean and presentable
  • Vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, sanitizing, and restocking supplies
  • Emptying trash and recycling
  • Setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and equipment for library programs and events
  • Identifying maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and repairs that need attention
  • Performing minor maintenance such as changing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, paint touch-ups, and other basic upkeep
  • Helping to maintain safe walkways and entrances
  • Using cleaning and maintenance equipment safely
  • Responding to spills and other unexpected cleaning needs
  • Occasionally assisting at other Library District locations and performing other duties as directed

You Might Be a Great Fit If You…

  • Are dependable and punctual
  • Take pride in keeping buildings clean and well maintained
  • Can work independently without someone constantly looking over your shoulder
  • Have a knack for figuring out how things work
  • Notice the loose handle, burned-out light, dripping faucet, or other small problem before someone has to point it out
  • Have custodial, building maintenance, facilities, construction, mechanical, or similar hands-on experience
  • Are comfortable using basic tools and equipment
  • Are willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings or weekends
  • Enjoy being a part of great place to work that serves the community

A high school diploma or equivalent and previous custodial experience are preferred. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing background screening requirements, reference checking, and eligibility to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position. Employees must be able to regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push and pull cleaning equipment, climb stairs and ladders, and frequently lift and carry up to 35 pounds. Occasionally heavier lifting may be required. Employees will be exposed to both indoor and outdoor work in all seasons and may involve physical activity including such as walkway snow removal, equipment handling, and general facility work.

The Benefits are Stellar

Depending on eligibility and scheduled hours, our benefits package includes:

  • PERSI Retirement – Idaho's excellent public employee pension system, providing eligible employees with a lifetime defined retirement benefit after vesting
  • Generous Personal Leave and Sick Leave – because time away from work matters too
  • 13 Paid Holidays
  • Excellent health, dental, and vision insurance with a significant employer contribution
  • Additional benefits available based on eligibility

We Welcome Diverse Backgrounds

Former military, veterans, and individuals with experience in public works, facilities operations, construction, logistics, mechanical systems, or trades are strongly encouraged to apply. Your leadership, adaptability, and mission-focused experience are highly valued here. Come help us maintain spaces that support community connection. EOE
