Exhibition Manager
The Exhibition Manager will manage the Exhibition Art & Scenic elements and equipment within the Exhibition Technical Engineering department to ensure a high quality of functionality and aesthetic excellence. This role functions as a Technical Director / Project Manager and oversees all technical aspects of the exhibit and all events hosted by the venue, supporting the execution of exhibit projects, redesigns, and upgrades.
Job SummaryAs Exhibition Manager, you will be responsible for the hands‑on fabrication, assembly, and on‑time delivery of projects, as well as managing scenic and technical contractors, suppliers, and vendors. You will manage, schedule, plan, and execute the operational, logistical, and financial aspects of the department while fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Support the installation team, creative directors, production designers, and producers to learn the technical systems and scenic intentions of the designers, ensuring the creative vision is carried out throughout the exhibition life cycle.
- Manage and lead exhibition maintenance and inspection during design, production/fabrication, and installation phases.
- Maintain a maintenance & inspection database and manage repair/replacement of equipment within budgetary constraints.
- Execute project management (including budget management) for maintenance, new design & development projects, focusing on quality and equipment uptime.
- Procure, program, install, maintain, and design equipment; establish preventive maintenance and inspection cycles.
- Establish and maintain safety protocols, procedures, and compliance with building codes in alignment with state and federal regulations.
- Make recommendations to the Director of Facilities & Exhibition regarding capital purchases, operating budgets, team training, and external vendors.
- Maintain exhibit and all back‑of‑house technical spaces in a safe, organized, and clean state.
- Strategically schedule staff for effective impact on exhibitions within budgeted guidelines; maintain and submit employee time sheets and other financial items.
- Ensure spare parts and inventory are available as needed.
- Solve complex technological and scenic problems using a variety of technical skills and safe best practices.
- Resolve issues with low‑voltage electronics, lighting systems, video/projection systems, and networking.
- Perform duties such as digital fabrication, 3D modeling, and design.
- Assist in programming sound reinforcement, installing rigging equipment, and managing network and control systems for exhibits.
- Train staff exhibition‑wide to better engage guests in technical installations.
- Oversee punch‑lists and close‑out procedures to hand‑over completed projects to the exhibition team.
- Act as liaison with internal or external artists to ensure installations are maintained to the highest standards.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work history in Project Management, Technical Direction in the performing arts, Design Development & Installation, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in a technical leadership role within immersive arts, amusement parks, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Three to five years of professional experience in emerging technology, entertainment technology, software development, electrical engineering, or professional audiovisual trades.
- Minimum of five years managing design‑to‑fabrication, welding, and installations.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing competing work streams.
- In‑depth knowledge of theatrical technical equipment, computers, data backbones, and programming.
- Specialties in woodworking, metalworking, plastics, electrical, and assembly skills; welding, power tools, shop tools, fabrication, assembly, fastening, and mounting techniques; finishes, painted surfaces, adhesive and fastening methods; rigging, fall protection, work access, trussing, chain motors.
