Field Service Engineer - Parcels
As a subsidiary of Toyota Industries, Vanderlande North America is a global leader in material handling system manufacturing, design, installation, and service for e‑commerce, parcel delivery, and air transportation. The Field Service Support Engineer (FSE) is a hybrid role that combines hands‑on field service support with technical subject‑matter expertise, based out of the Marietta, GA headquarters.
Responsibilities- Field Operations (50%)
- Perform preventive maintenance visits and system inspections at customer sites on a scheduled basis.
- Execute corrective maintenance activities, ensuring timely resolution within defined service windows.
- Respond to emergency service calls with minimal notice to restore operational continuity.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and controls‑related issues on parcel handling systems.
- Act as a Field Supervisor for small RMR (Repair, Maintenance, Retrofit) projects, coordinating on‑site activities, managing subcontractors and site safety, and ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Maintain clear documentation of service activities, findings, and recommendations.
- Build strong customer relationships through professional on‑site engagement.
- Technical Support & SME Functions (50%)
- Provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support for service desk escalations and customer cases.
- Lead or support complex troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis activities remotely or on‑site.
- Handle technical service requests, including system optimization, upgrades, and modifications.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for parcel systems within the organization.
- Deliver technical training programs at the Innovation Center in Marietta, on‑site at customer facilities, and for internal teams (service, engineering, sales).
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience supporting electromechanical or material handling systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems (PLCs, controls, sensors, drives) and mechanical systems (conveyors, motors, assemblies).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast‑paced environments.
- 5+ years supporting automated material handling or parcel systems.
- Experience in parcel, logistics, or material handling industries.
- Familiarity with Siemens or Allen‑Bradley PLC diagnostics.
- Experience supervising field projects or delivering technical training.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
- Solution‑oriented mindset with strong problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing business needs.
Travel up to 50% across North America, including short‑notice assignments and customer site support. The role will be based out of Vanderlande’s North America headquarters in Marietta, GA between assignments.
Physical Requirements- Ability to climb a 2‑story ladder.
- Ability to walk a mile in 20 minutes.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Comfortable working in office, factory, and construction environments.
