Position: Maintenance Technician (GSD #3129)
The chosen candidate will be compensated at a rate of $27.220000 per hour. This rate is non-negotiable.

Why does the job exist?

This position exists to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of GSD/FMD facilities. The Maintenance Technician performs routine and preventive maintenance to reduce equipment failures, diagnoses and repairs worn or damaged components, and upholds all required safety standards across assigned buildings. This position maintains a hazard free work environment, assists with oversight of external contractors and technicians, and documents all maintenance activities, procurement needs, and associated costs to support accurate reporting and operational accountability.

How does it get done?

Key responsibilities include:

- Performing advanced maintenance and repair tasks across multiple trades, including carpentry, masonry, painting, fencing, and concrete work.
- Constructing, assembling, and repairing interior and exterior structures such as walls, floors, stairs, doors, and roofs.
- Completing remodeling and renovation projects for offices and buildings to maintain usability and extend facility lifespan.
- Conducting landscaping and grounds maintenance to ensure safe, clean, and accessible exterior environments.
- Inspecting buildings, systems, and equipment to ensure compliance with safety and building code requirements.
- Operating, maintaining, and repairing heavy equipment used for facility projects and large-scale maintenance tasks.
- Supporting preventive and predictive maintenance efforts by identifying needs, documenting deficiencies, and performing corrective actions.

All Executive Branch agencies under GSD/FMD jurisdiction.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate will have:

- At least one year of experience in maintenance and repair work (basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general construction).
- Ability to identify and resolve routine facility issues and interpret maintenance requests.
- Skilled in following established plans, procedures, and safety standards.
- Familiarity with maintenance management systems.
- Working knowledge of office applications such as spreadsheets and databases for documentation and tracking.
- Dependable, safety conscious, and detail oriented.
- Capable of completing a variety of repair and maintenance tasks independently while also supporting the facility team.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of experience in general building and grounds maintenance, custodial duties, construction, or appliance repair. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess & maintain a current & valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, requiring heavy lifting, climbing, kneeling and bending for extended periods. Therefore, a certain degree of physical stamina and strength is crucial for this profession. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, work in inclement weather (cold and hot) Must be able to carry tools and equipment from building to building on large campuses.

Will be on periodic "on call" for emergencies, including weekends and holidays.
