PROMOTIONAL AND OPEN COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONThe examination procedure shall result in a promotional and open eligibility list. The promotional eligibility list shall take precedence when certifying eligibles. When the promotional list does not contain sufficient ranks of eligibiles, certification of additional ranks shall then be made from the open list.

BASIC FUNCTIONUnder general supervision, plans, coordinates, supervises, and conducts the activities of custodial staff in the cleaning and maintenance of district facilities and sites.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe Supervisor, Custodian is distinguished from Custodian in that this classification, in addition to performing custodial work, has supervisory responsibilities. The Supervisor, Custodian is distinguished from Lead Custodian in that a Lead Custodian provides direction and support to Custodians but does not have supervisory responsibilities. The Supervisor, Custodian is distinguished from Plant Supervisor in that a Plant Supervisor provides supervision and support to one or more Supervisor, Custodians.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
- EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of custodial experience, including one (1) year of experience in a lead capacity. Lead experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently. One (1) year of experience in a lead capacity may be substituted by having one (1) year of experience as an SMMUSD Custodian.
- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/INFORMATION: A valid California Driver License and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites is required.
- Coordinates and conducts inspections of facilities and sites to evaluate compliance with objectives, goals, and standards related to cleanliness and safety.
- Coordinates the maintenance and repair of facilities, sites, and equipment used for cleaning and maintenance.
- Coordinates and assigns duties to staff related to the cleaning and maintenance of facilities and sites.
- Updates and maintains records related to cleaning and maintaining facilities and sites.
- Prepares reports for District use and county, state, and/or federal reporting requirements.
- Provides support, guidance, clarification, and direction to parents, community members, and District staff on matters related to cleaning and maintaining facilities and sites.
- Distributes communications and informs staff of new or recurring information.
- Selects, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff.
- Participates in the opening and closing of facilities and sites.
- Orders, receives, checks, delivers, and maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Performs detailed cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, shampooing, stripping, sealing, polishing, and mopping in a variety of locations and rooms within a facility.
- Cleans and maintains sites and areas surrounding facilities including entry ways, blacktops, patios, playgrounds, sidewalks, and parking lots by hosing down, sweeping, and disposing of trash.
- Washes, scrubs, and sanitizes surfaces and fixtures including walls, desks, floors, showers, drinking fountains, toilets, and sinks.
- Maintains inventory and restocks consumable products including soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, trash bags, and paper towels.
- Replaces incandescent bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Moves, assembles, and adjusts furniture including chairs, desks, and tables.
- Wash windows within and outside a facility by hand and using a telescoping pole.
- Collects and disposes of trash and debris; empties and cleans refuse containers.
- Prepares facilities and sites for meetings and events.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
