Position: Water Agency Maintenance Worker I - Extra Help

Overview

Join the Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water) as a Water Agency Maintenance Worker I - Extra Help. Multiple positions are available. Maintenance Workers perform semi-skilled, light, and heavy manual tasks related to flood control and vegetation management, including maintenance of water channels and wastewater facilities. Typical duties include:

  • Performing trail and access road maintenance by mowing, pruning, and chipping vegetation (brush and trees)
  • Operating power tools and heavy and light equipment
  • Working outside on sites throughout Sonoma County

Typical work schedule is 40 hours per week (10-hour days, Monday–Thursday).

Responsibilities
  • Perform semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks for extended periods and under varying weather conditions
  • Operate line cleaning equipment and hand and power tools
  • Determine appropriate methods to clean water and sewer lines
  • Demonstrate physical strength and endurance; work across multiple trades
  • Operate CCTV equipment to diagnose collection system issues and identify required maintenance
  • Mark and locate underground services; operate a diverse range of light and heavy equipment
  • Work in confined and/or underground spaces and follow safety procedures
  • Read and follow oral and written instructions; complete simple report forms; communicate effectively with others
Qualifications
  • A California Driver’s license
  • Experience with vegetation management or landscaping
  • Knowledge of riparian ecology and fire fuel reduction concepts (e.g., shaded fuel breaks)
  • Experience operating large vehicles and/or pulling trailers is a plus
  • Working knowledge of general construction materials, safety practices, and tools used in wastewater collection and water distribution system construction and maintenance and/or vegetation management
  • Ability to perform the described duties, including heavy physical labor, with safety and accuracy

Experience and

Education:

Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities listed. Normally includes some construction or maintenance experience using light mechanical tools and heavy physical labor.
Driver's License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level; the State of California requires or may require endorsements depending on assignment. A valid California Class A Commercial Driver's License is desirable.

The advertised position requires possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Working Knowledge and Ability: General construction materials, safety practices, and tools; knowledge of water and wastewater systems, flood control, and related trades; ability to locate underground services, operate CCTV equipment, and perform basic report writing; provide safe, efficient service in diverse work environments.
