Athletic Fields Maintenance

Under direct supervision, serves as a member of the athletics team performing light to heavy physical labor. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of athletic fields and adjunct facilities performing a variety of tasks including field turf restoration, event and game day preparation to ensure safe and playable athletic facilities. Provides customer service to patrons of facilities.

Daily general maintenance and upkeep of athletic fields and adjunct facilities

Provides polite, friendly and accurate customer service.

Performs proper maintenance techniques to ensure safe playable surface including maintaining infield skin, infield lips, baselines, warning tracks, pitching mounds and home plate areas. Includes regular dragging, screen dragging, watering, mowing, edging, and trimming.

Paints and marks fields, sets bases and pitching mounds under applicable rules and specified dimensions. Provides set-up and clean-up of facilities for practices, games, tournaments and events. Performs general ground's maintenance, repair and janitorial duties of fields, fencing, common areas, amenities, parking lots and other areas.

Conducts parks patrols and general inspections of athletic facilities to ensure the safety of the public. Reports potential safety hazards or maintenance issues to supervisor for follow up as necessary.

Contributes to the decision-making process on the feasibility of playing on field depending upon weather and field conditions.

Exercises a high degree of initiative and decision making to ensure customer satisfaction.

Work Hours:

40 Hours Per Week - 7:00 a.m.

- 3:30 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or its equivalent and one year of experience as a semi-skilled laborer in the care and maintenance of parks, landscape, athletic fields, or other similar grounds. Possession of a valid Driver's License at time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields; understanding of how turf grass cultural practices effect turf performance. Experience in maintaining higher level sports field playing surfaces.

Competencies:

Basic computer software skills.

General knowledge of methods and techniques, of prepping and maintaining athletic field turf and adjunct facilities.

General operation and maintenance of machines, power equipment and hand tools. Operates mowers and other types of field maintenance equipment.

Ability to deal with customers in a courteous, efficient, and tactful manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and the general public.

Ability to read chemical labels. Ability to read material safety data sheets (MSDS).

Ability to work anytime from 6:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. on weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions.

Physical Demands:
Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:
This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
