Job Summary /

Description:

Under general supervision, inspect and test the accuracy of large capacity scales such as vehicle scales, livestock scales, etc.

  • Operate test equipment associated with the test unit.
  • Drive the scale test unit to inspection sites.
  • Enforcing the Georgia weights and measures laws and related regulations.
  • Testing, inspecting, and determining the accuracy of weighing and measuring devices used commercially in Georgia, including vehicle, livestock, hopper, warehouse, and forklift scales.
  • Investigating related consumer complaints and preparing documentation related to events.
  • This position requires occasional overnight travel.
  • This position is part of a two-person team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid Georgia commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred; however, if the selected candidate does not have a CDL, they must have a valid Georgia driver’s license and be willing to obtain a CDL within six months of employment. DOA will pay any fees associated with the new license.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Must have communication and customer service skills.
  • Maintain the State vehicle and all equipment for the job.
  • Be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • General knowledge of Windows operating systems and basic computer skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Selected applicants must reside or be willing to relocate within a reasonable distance of the assigned territory.

Physical Demands:

  • Standing for long periods of time; intermittent periods of walking, squatting, kneeling, or driving.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. for short periods of time.

Other Duties:

  • Price Verification Inspection:
    Confirming multiple items marked prices with the scanner price.
