Senior Maintenance Worker- Water Distribution

• Performs general maintenance duties

This position provides complex maintenance and repairs to public works.

• Assists an assigned crew; ensures the crew has adequate supplies to complete the assignment.
• Cleans offices, hallways, lunch and break rooms, meeting rooms, and stairways, including sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping; washing windows and mirrors; dusting furniture and fixtures; and emptying trash.
• Performs general grounds maintenance and landscaping duties: mows and edges grassy areas, trims hedges, prunes trees, pulls weeds, plants flowers, and spreads mulch.
• Maintains sprinklers; repairs broken pipes as needed.
• Transports vehicles to city shop for routine maintenance and services as needed.
• Troubleshoots basic maintenance problems involving plumbing and equipment repair or replacement; painting; or related repair or installation.
• Maintains landscaping, storm drainage, and irrigation systems; treats plants and turf for disease; installs and maintains backflow prevention devices;
• Performs preventative maintenance on various pumps and motors.
• Monitors water quality and chemistry; sizes and replaces mechanical seals; installs, calibrates, and troubleshoots chlorination controllers; and installs, repairs, replaces, and modifies water lines, mains, valves, and related distribution equipment.
• Estimates cost of repairs; selects and requisitions necessary equipment and related supplies; oversees all work in progress to ensure quality, timeliness, and safety; inspects completed work to ensure quality and conformance to code.
• Provides maintenance and repair work and supervises a small work crew; assigns, reviews, and inspects work; guides task performance; trains and develops employees; provides input to employee performance appraisals; promotes and observe safe work practices.

• Cleans and maintains job site, including laying sod, weed eating, brush removal, removing litter, streets, utilities, and other equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent; less than one year of related maintenance experience is necessary.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
Work is performed under the close supervision of the Supervisor. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES:
Guidelines include the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY:
The work consists of related maintenance duties. Regular and repetitive tasks, processes, or operations requiring the selection and execution of actions based on defined procedures. Inclement weather and heavy traffic conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.
