Join an award-winning Library! The Schaumburg Township District Library is looking for a Technical Services Associate to join our team. This is a part‑time position working approximately 30 hours per week. The schedule would be four (4) 7.5‑hour shifts Tuesday through Friday, with some flexibility on the schedule between working hours.
The hiring range for this position is $20.51–$24.62 per hour, based on skills and qualifications. Our schedules are based on the needs of the library and could change if and when needed.

Position Summary:
The Technical Services Associate is responsible for the physical processing, description, and ordering of all library materials. Part of the duties include record verification and database maintenance. The Technical Services Associate is also responsible for (1) creating and editing bibliographic records; (2) the acquisition and descriptive cataloging of all library materials; and (3) prepares materials for circulation and supports a wide range of other activities in the Access Services Department, including providing a high level of customer service to the Department’s internal customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and transmit orders for transmission to vendors by computer, mail, or telephone
- Communicate with selectors to ensure accuracy of classification, count and proper GRID assignment of orders or additional concerns
- Enter invoices into ILS acquisitions module and forward to appropriate internal parties
- Reconcile monthly reports for vendor orders
- Maintain all information regarding on order titles and items
- Discard materials from database
- Processes print materials with book jackets, labels, barcodes, and repackage AV materials following established procedures and guidelines; prepare library materials for circulation in the Library
- Route invoice and packing slips for payment approval; document use of Library charge card and accounts
- Move and unpack boxes weighing up to 25 pounds
- Verify receipt of and process materials and supplies according to Library and department priorities and procedures
- Change status of materials in the Library database and route to appropriate department
- Repair Library materials as needed
- Enter and maintain statistics as necessary
- Process outgoing mail using library software
- Receive sort and distribute incoming mail, newspapers, and magazines as assigned
- Works with office supplies to fill orders as requested
- Assign classifications to certain kinds of materials according to guidelines set by the Cataloging Librarian
- Create and maintain bibliographic information using the MARC or other bibliographic formats
- Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind
- Maintain patron and employee confidentiality
- Communicate problems that arise with supervisor or designee; particularly situations where patrons are not following Patron Code of Conduct
- Communicate clearly either in person, on the telephone and in writing; maintain the ability and patience to understand and be understood by all patrons
- Keep apprised of Library programs, policies and procedures, and building lay out to most effectively assist patrons
- Maintain working knowledge of computer systems and technology needed in the position or as an employee
- Cope with the stress of the job and get along with coworkers
- Attend meetings and training as required or requested
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned
Education and/or
Experience:
- Technical Service Certificate, Associate’s Degree or two (2) years of prior experience
