Schaumburg Township District Library is seeking a Public Desk Assistant. This is a part-time position working approximately 20 hours per week. The vital role of the Public Desk Assistant is providing customer service at two of our public service desks, assessing and fulfilling patrons’ needs for information and materials and maintaining departmental procedures and policies. The schedule for this position follows and requires flexibility.
- Mondays: 5:00 p.m.
-9:00 p.m. - Tuesdays: 5:00 p.m.
-9:00 p.m. - Wednesdays: 5:00 p.m.
-9:00 p.m. - Fridays: 12:00 p.m.
-4:30 p.m.
- Saturdays: 8:30 a.m.
-5:00 p.m. - Sundays: 9:30 a.m.
-3:00 p.m. OR 11:30 a.m.
-5:00 p.m.
The schedules are based on the needs of the library and could change if and when needed. The pay range for this position is $17.65-$21.18 per hour, based on skills and qualifications.

Position SummaryThe Public Desk Assistant is responsible for providing customer service at two of our public service desks, assessing and fulfilling patrons’ needs for information and materials and maintaining departmental procedures and policies. This position requires good organizational and communication skills and the flexibility and training to move from task to task in a team environment. Specific responsibilities will be assigned by the supervisor on the basis of experience, skills, and specific needs of the department and number of hours worked.

- Provides reference services to patrons at the public service desks
- Assists in providing technology and equipment assistance to patrons
- Handles financial transactions and maintains cash drawer
- Sets up equipment for library programs and public meetings
- Manages study room reservations for patrons
- Creates and maintains pillar displays
- Keeps apprised of Library programs, policies and procedures and building layout to assist patrons most effectively
- Participates in relevant training, continuing education and/or professional development
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent knowledge and skill in areas related to the responsibilities of the position
- Customer service experience is required
- Knowledge of e-material resources
