Job Description10-month full-time position for the school year.
Job Summary: Create an engaging and dynamic art education program that fosters creativity, artistic expression, and appreciation for the visual arts while cultivating a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
Job Responsibilities- Teach a variety of art concepts and techniques that align with the District 54 art curriculum and state/national learning standards.
- Provide differentiated instruction so students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciate the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
- Demonstrate techniques utilizing a variety of media and teaching methods.
- Develop differentiated instructional plans that fulfill art objectives while allowing for activities in new or experimental techniques.
- Organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstrations, and working time.
- Establish and maintain appropriate student behavior conducive to a productive and safe classroom environment.
- Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
- Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize distribution and collection time.
- Evaluate each student’s performance and effort in art.
- Keep an inventory of all supplies, both software and hardware.
- Order supplies responsibly as needed each school year following the art budget guidelines and ordering procedures.
- Plan and participate in exhibiting student artwork for the school, district, and community.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Collaborate positively and effectively with district, school, and classroom colleagues during the school year, professional development time, and in shared material spaces.
- Utilize teacher evaluation tools in conformance with district guidelines.
- Communicate with parents and appropriate school personnel on student progress.
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental program initiatives within the school of assignment and/or at a district level.
- Promote and advocate a general appreciation of the arts.
- Supervise students in classroom and school-wide activities as assigned.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by building or district administration.
Professional Educator License Visual Arts with grade range of current credentials or Special (Visual Arts) (K-12)
Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, or hear. They must frequently use hands to handle or feel materials. They occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Required vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
