What You Will Do
GFT is seeking a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician II to join our Construction Services Team in one of our offices in Texas or Illinois. This role follows an in‑office work model, requiring regular attendance at field locations based on project deliverables. What You’ll Be Challenged To DoAs an SUE Technician II you will work with the SUE Department lead, Project Managers, and Analysts to provide subsurface utility engineering activities, ensuring quality and efficient fieldwork by interpreting and documenting information related to underground utilities.
- Responsible for data collection of underground utilities by means of pipe and cable locators, ground‑penetrating radar, and vacuum excavation.
- Responsible for communicating between team members, both written and verbal.
- Ensures SUE field health and safety compliance in conjunction with supervisors.
- Maintain records, prepare reports and prepare correspondence as needed related to the completion of work assignments.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by management.
This position requires a minimum of 2‑3 years of SUE or utility location experience and a high school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
What You’ll Bring To Our Firm- A minimum of 2–3 years SUE or utility location experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Knowledge of ground‑penetrating radar, cable locating equipment and vacuum excavation.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to make decisions in a timely manner.
- Willingness to adhere to policies and procedures as directed by supervision.
- Ability to coordinate and work in a team environment.
- Operate standard office equipment (i.e., personal computer, plotter, copy machine, etc.).
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
- DOT experience is a plus.
- Industrial site experience is a plus.
- Experience in land surveying is a plus.
The salary range for this position is $30/hour–$40/hour, dependent upon experience and geographic location.
