Senior Structural Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction – Relocation Opportunity

We are partnered with a heavy civil construction company based in Southeast Tennessee and are seeking a Senior Structural Estimator to support ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, developing bid strategies, and coordinating all aspects of the bidding process for bridges, structures, and structural concrete work.

Relocation assistance is available. This role requires relocation to Southeast Tennessee, a beautiful rural area with a low cost of living, zero income tax, and many outdoor opportunities within a short drive to the Smoky Mountains.

Project Identification & Strategy
  • Research and evaluate prospective heavy civil and structural project opportunities.
  • Develop comprehensive bid strategies aligned with company objectives, market conditions, and risk tolerance.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of structural scopes, schedules, sequencing, and constructability.
Estimating & Analysis
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and scope analyses for structural concrete, reinforcing steel, formwork, foundations, and associated civil work.
  • Review plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to identify risks, constructability challenges, and cost drivers.
  • Evaluate concrete mix designs, reinforcing placement, forming systems, shoring, falsework, and production methodologies.
  • Understand crew compositions, equipment requirements, production rates, material quantities (including waste/yield), and subcontractor participation.
  • Analyze historical data, project budgets, bid results, and market conditions to support accurate and competitive pricing.
Bid Preparation
  • Obtain bid bonds and specialty insurance quotes as required.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing from vendors, material suppliers, subcontractors, and DBE/SBE participants.
  • Coordinate all scopes of work to ensure complete bid coverage.
  • Prepare scope letters, clarifications, alternates, and schedules of values for quotes and private bid submissions.
  • Complete electronic and paper bid submissions in accordance with owner and agency requirements.
Project Award & Handoff
  • Assist in subcontractor and supplier selection, including DBE/SBE participation.
  • Complete required owner or agency award documentation.
  • Establish project budgets and assist with preparation of subcontracts and major purchase orders.
  • Transition all relevant estimating information to project management and operations teams to support a successful project startup.
Position Requirements Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of construction estimating experience, with significant experience in heavy civil and structural projects, including bridges and concrete structures.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, One Note, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with heavy civil estimating software (e.g., HCSS Heavy Bid/Heavy Job), AutoCAD, and construction accounting/project management systems preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Physical & Site Requirements
  • Ability to:
    • Read, hear, and follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Work extended or non‑standard hours as project demands require.
    • Work at heights and in enclosed spaces when visiting active job sites.
    • Walk moderate distances on uneven terrain.
    • Lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally.
    • Comply with all safety and PPE requirements.
Other Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre‑employment screening requirements.
  • Willingness to perform additional job‑related duties as assigned.
