Haeger Engineering is a well-established civil engineering and land surveying consulting firm serving clients across Illinois. We specialize in land development projects spanning residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer – Project Manager to lead projects, mentor staff, and play a key role in delivering high‑quality engineering solutions.
Position OverviewAs a Project Manager, you will lead the design and permitting of land development projects from concept through approval. You will manage client relationships, oversee project teams, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining high technical standards.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and coordinate multiple land development projects simultaneously
- Lead the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, and supporting calculations
- Oversee site design including grading, drainage, and utility layouts
- Direct permitting efforts and coordinate with municipalities and review agencies
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and attend project meetings
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Conduct research and resolve technical challenges as needed
- Participate in occasional site visits to review construction and field conditions
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) from an accredited institution
- Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure will be considered
- 5+ years of relevant experience in land development
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Strong understanding of stormwater management, drainage design, and hydraulic modeling
- Experience preparing plans, calculations, and permitting submittals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong leadership and project management abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and coordinate with agencies
- Highly organized with strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Ability to manage shifting priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to mentor and develop junior staff
- Primarily office‑based with occasional field/site visits
- Hybrid schedule available (3 days in‑office / 2 days remote) after onboarding
- Flexibility to work from either Schaumburg or Chicago office
- Occasional local travel for meetings, site visits, and industry events
- Salary: $90,000 – $130,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
