Maintenance Contracts Resident Technician - (Engineering Technician IV)

This position is accountable for the proper layout, inspection, and documentation required to ensure that assigned major high visibility construction projects are built in conformance with the plans, special provisions, standard specifications, and sound engineering practices.

Essential Functions:

• Supervises highway improvements to obtain timely and quality construction in compliance with the plans, special provisions, standard specifications, and acceptable engineering practices.
• Provides appropriate documentation for each phase of project implementation.
• Provides complete and accurate documentation to ensure timely acceptance and finalization of projects.
• Develops effective cooperation between the contractor, the district, and other governmental agencies to facilitate project completion.
• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
• Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Successful completion of Documentation of Contract Quantities course and working knowledge of the Illinois Department of Transportation's (IDOT's) iPDWeb (CMMS) program for construction and materials management.
• Working knowledge of the maintenance and/or construction industry.
• Ability to supervise a staff which includes consultants engaged in field engineering functions.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
