Join our applications engineering team and help customers put advanced mill-turn technology to work.

Job Description

DN Solutions is seeking an Applications Engineer specializing in our SMX and DNX mill-turn product lines. This hands‑on role combines CNC programming, machine setup, process development, customer support, and technical sales support. You will be directly involved in turnkey projects, developing and proving out complete manufacturing processes at our Chicago Technical Center and at customer facilities. The role includes work with both FANUC and Siemens controls.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop CNC programs and complete machining processes for SMX and DNX machines, including milling, turning, and multi‑spindle operations.
  • Take part in turnkey projects from initial part review and process planning through programming, tooling and work holding selection, prove‑out, and customer acceptance.
  • Set up machines, prove out programs, and validate part quality, cycle time, and production readiness.
  • Plan machining sequences involving the main and subspindles, B‑axis, lower turret, and part transfer.
  • Select and implement tooling, work holding, probing, and in‑process measurement strategies.
  • Conduct customer test cuts, time studies, demonstrations, and pre‑sale feasibility evaluations.
  • Troubleshoot programming, postprocessor, machine operation, and process issues in coordination with internal teams and outside partners.
  • Support distributors and customers with applications training, process optimization, and production startup.
  • Document programs, setups, tooling, results, and lessons learned for internal and customer use.
  • Participate in open houses, trade shows, and customer visits as needed.
Job Requirements Required
  • Associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • At least five years of CNC machining or applications experience, with substantial experience on mill-turn or multitasking machines.
  • Strong ability to set up, program, and prove out complex parts independently.
  • Experience with multi‑axis machining, main and subspindle operations, part transfer, and synchronized operations.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software and the ability to read, edit, and troubleshoot G-code.
  • Working knowledge of tooling, work holding, inspection methods, and process validation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with customers, distributors, and cross‑functional engineering teams.
  • Ability to travel to customer and distributor locations as needed.
Preferred
  • Direct experience with DN Solutions SMX or DNX machines.
  • Experience with both FANUC and Siemens CNC controls.
  • Experience with Mastercam or Siemens NX or comparable CAM, postprocessor troubleshooting, and machine simulation.
  • Experience developing turnkey processes or supporting automated production cells.

  • 401(k)
  • Health, Vision, and Dental Insurance
  • Life Insurance and Short-Term Disability
  • Paid Time-Off including vacation, sick time, and Holidays.
  • Employee Referral Program
