Position: Tax Specialist I

Job Summary

Paylocity, an award‑winning provider of cloud‑based HR and payroll software, is seeking a dedicated team member for its Tax Data Compliance Solutions team. This full‑time, 100% in‑office position (Schaumburg, IL; Meridian, ; or Rochester, NY) supports clients to remain compliant with tax regulations.

In‑Office Requirements

This role requires on‑site presence five days per week during designated work hours. Remote or hybrid work is not available.

Responsibilities
  • Basic understanding of internal tax department processes
  • Familiarity with Master Tax and Web Pay systems
  • Initiate and process SUI Rates/EIN and frequency exchanges
  • Update SUI rates, account numbers, and deposit frequencies
  • Manage tax codes including creation, inactivation, and updates
  • Maintain and update procedure documentation
  • Complete special projects as assigned by management
  • Basic payroll tax knowledge
  • Achieve designated weekly quota
  • Communicate tax issues internally and externally effectively
  • Create and file tax returns and amendments
  • Review and understand amended tax return packages for clients
  • Communicate taxation information to internal partners managing client relationships
  • Stay current with developments affecting tax regulations and policies
Requirements
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in Employment Tax or Compliance
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in Payroll or Accounting
  • Experience with Enterprise Employment Tax software tools
  • Ability to learn and maintain new process proficiency
  • General knowledge of federal and state employment tax legislation
  • Experience navigating multiple government agencies and understanding regulatory language
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and problem‑solving ability
  • High level of integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Skills
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CP) or progress toward certification
  • Payroll service bureau experience
  • Intermediate Excel skills
Soft Skills
  • Team player, collaborates to make awesome happen
  • Self‑motivated, works hard and plays hard
  • Adaptable; shifts priorities as needed
  • Highly organized; detail‑oriented
  • Proficient with MS Office applications
Benefits & Compensation

Base pay range $39,000 – $72,400 per year (subject to market location). Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k) match, and additional perks for career development. Compensation may vary based on knowledge, skills, and experience.
