Interim Controller

Location: Schaumburg, IL (Hybrid - 2 days onsite per week)

Start Date: Immediate

Hourly Rate: 70+ depending on experience (negotiable)

Jefferson Wells, a Sikich company, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to support a client engagement on a 3‑6‑month contract basis. This is a hands‑on leadership role ideal for a finance professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys improving processes and cleaning up accounting operations.

• Provide day‑to‑day controllership oversight for a mid‑sized organization
• Lead and execute process improvement initiatives, including standardizing and streamlining accounting workflows
• Address and remediate highly manual, spreadsheet‑driven processes
• Oversee and optimize a complex supplier rebate process
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reporting across approximately $200M in financial flows and $30M in revenue
• Partner across functions to improve controls, documentation, and efficiency
• Support month‑end close and related accounting activities as needed

• Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader, ideally in an interim or transformation capacity
• Strong hands‑on approach‑comfortable rolling up sleeves to execute as well as lead
• Demonstrated experience in process cleanup, documentation, and optimization
• Experience managing complex accounting processes (rebates, accruals, large transaction volumes, etc.)
• Advanced Excel skills required; ability to work within highly manual environments
• Experience with Net Suite is a plus, but not required
• Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to work in fast‑paced environments

• A problem‑solver who can quickly assess current state and implement improvements
• Someone comfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity
• A collaborative partner who can work effectively with leadership and operational teams
