Interim Controller
Location: Schaumburg, IL (Hybrid - 2 days onsite per week)
Start Date: Immediate
Hourly Rate: 70+ depending on experience (negotiable)
Jefferson Wells, a Sikich company, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to support a client engagement on a 3‑6‑month contract basis. This is a hands‑on leadership role ideal for a finance professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys improving processes and cleaning up accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide day‑to‑day controllership oversight for a mid‑sized organization
- Lead and execute process improvement initiatives, including standardizing and streamlining accounting workflows
- Address and remediate highly manual, spreadsheet‑driven processes
- Oversee and optimize a complex supplier rebate process
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reporting across approximately $200M in financial flows and $30M in revenue
- Partner across functions to improve controls, documentation, and efficiency
- Support month‑end close and related accounting activities as needed
- Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader, ideally in an interim or transformation capacity
- Strong hands‑on approach‑comfortable rolling up sleeves to execute as well as lead
- Demonstrated experience in process cleanup, documentation, and optimization
- Experience managing complex accounting processes (rebates, accruals, large transaction volumes, etc.)
- Advanced Excel skills required; ability to work within highly manual environments
- Experience with Net Suite is a plus, but not required
- Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to work in fast‑paced environments
- A problem‑solver who can quickly assess current state and implement improvements
- Someone comfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity
- A collaborative partner who can work effectively with leadership and operational teams
