Network Administrator (Information Technology Department)

We are seeking a skilled Network Administrator to manage and secure our network infrastructure. This role is responsible for ensuring optimal performance, implementing robust security measures, and driving continuous improvements to support business operations.

Job Summary

This position reports to the Technical Services Manager and has primary responsibility for the administration of the network infrastructure and network security. It involves evaluating the current network infrastructure, maintaining all networking components to ensure optimal efficiency and performance, and recommending and implementing improvements. The role is also responsible for implementing and maintaining appropriate network security protocols, configurations, and processes to protect against internal and external threats.

The position typically involves regular shifts with weekends off and one day a week working remotely. It serves as an escalation point for on‑call technicians, with occasional off‑hour calls and after‑hours maintenance windows outside normal working hours.

Responsibilities
  • Provides regular management and monitoring of all network equipment, including firewalls, routers, switches, servers, Wi‑Fi, and related network components. Current hardware is Fortinet.
  • Provides regular management and monitoring of security vulnerabilities and advisories, and works to mitigate these in a timely manner.
  • Assesses and evaluates a variety of inputs—including threat intelligence feeds, product advisories, and industry best practices—to maintain network and server security protocols and configurations to protect the village from internal and external threats.
  • Assists in developing short‑ and long‑range recommendations for networking needs (e.g., analysis of equipment, repairs, maintenance contracts).
  • Assists with the design and implementation of disaster recovery, incident response, and business continuity operations.
  • Researches and advises management on enhancements/new releases of hardware and software technology.
  • Ensures vital network systems are backed up regularly, and is responsible for backups, restorations, and backup configurations of network and security systems.
  • Creates documentation on how and when servers, network equipment, and security systems are changed or upgraded.
  • Performs needs assessments to ensure appropriate justification for improvements and/or modifications.
  • Coordinates with and works through various vendors and consultants for network‑related projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer technology, computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience with Fortinet firewall and networking products, with advanced knowledge of network technologies and protocols.
  • A minimum of three years of experience with security systems and protocols, including cybersecurity advisories.
  • Proficiency with current computer technology, job‑specific software, and customer service systems.
