Are you someone who enjoys hands‑on technical work, working with testing equipment, and supporting quality and engineering teams in a manufacturing or laboratory environment? My client, a growing manufacturing organization located in Schaumburg, Illinois, is seeking a Test Technician to support material and product testing operations on an 8‑week contract assignment. This role will work directly with testing equipment, sample preparation, and data collection activities used to evaluate material performance under a variety of environmental and load conditions.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with manufacturing, laboratory, quality, or technical testing experience who enjoys hands‑on work and working in a structured technical environment.

The Test Technician will support material characterization and testing activities involving tensile, compression, and bend testing across a variety of materials and environmental conditions. This role will prepare samples, operate testing equipment, collect and analyze data, and support testing procedures in accordance with ASTM, ISO, and internal quality standards. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with technical equipment and testing procedures in a manufacturing or laboratory setting.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Prepare material samples for testing including molded, machined, or cut specimens
- Set up and operate tensile, compression, and bend testing equipment
- Condition test samples using environmental chambers and temperature controls
- Monitor and record testing results during material evaluations
- Collect and analyze testing data using software systems and reporting tools
- Assist with stress‑strain analysis and related material performance evaluations
- Ensure testing equipment is functioning properly and calibrated prior to use
- Follow ASTM, ISO, and internal testing procedures and specifications
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Support additional testing and technical activities as assigned by management
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate’s degree preferred but not required
- Previous manufacturing, laboratory, quality, or technical testing experience preferred
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with testing equipment and fixtures
- Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office
- Ability to follow detailed procedures, specifications, and safety requirements
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to learn testing software, instrumentation, and measurement tools
- Experience working within ISO or ASTM environments is a plus
