Overview

Applications Engineer (Sales Support) – CNC Machining Schaumburg, IL | On-Site | Direct Hire | $90,000 – $130,000

About the Opportunity

A leading global manufacturer of CNC machine tools and advanced manufacturing solutions is looking for two Applications Engineers to join their Schaumburg, IL team. This is a retirement backfill with a forward-looking goal — they want people learning under experienced, tenured engineers and building expertise for the long term.

This is a highly technical, hands-on role that sits at the intersection of engineering and customer support. You will be the technical backbone of the sales team — conducting machine demonstrations, developing CNC programs and tooling solutions, supporting customer implementations, and troubleshooting in the field. If you love being on advanced CNC equipment AND working directly with customers and sales teams, this role was built for you.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the sales team with technical expertise throughout the full customer lifecycle
  • Conducting customer visits, machine assessments, and product demonstrations
  • Developing CNC programs, tooling, and fixturing solutions for turnkey manufacturing processes
  • Providing customer training and technical support during machine implementation
  • Troubleshooting machining and programming issues on advanced CNC equipment
  • Traveling to customer sites, demos, and trade shows — up to 25% travel
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of hands-on CNC programming experience using G & M code — required
  • Experience with multi-task turning centers and 5-axis machining (VMC/HMC)
  • Strong background in CNC machine setup, process engineering, and machining optimization
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments such as tool & die, job shops, or production machining
  • Strong knowledge of CNC controls — Fanuc or Siemens preferred
  • Customer-facing confidence and strong communication skills
  • Hands-on problem solver who can translate complex machining requirements into practical solutions
Nice to Have
  • CAM software experience — Mastercam or Siemens NX
  • CAD software experience — Solid Works, Inventor, or AutoCAD
  • Experience supporting customers or technical sales teams
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or ISO quality standards
  • No degree required — hands-on experience and machining knowledge is what matters
Interview Process

This is a highly technical interview process. Candidates should expect:

  • 1st Round:
On-site interview with Director of Engineering, Floor Manager, and HR
  • 2nd Round:
On-site with senior leadership — includes a live machining/programming evaluation on the machines

If you can program, this is your chance to show it.

  • Base Salary: $90,000 – $130,000 depending on experience (ideally $100K–$110K range)
  • 401(k)
  • Paid Time Off
  • Exposure to cutting-edge CNC machining technology
  • Opportunity to work with customers across aerospace, automotive, medical, and industrial manufacturing sectors
  • Up to 25% travel for customer visits, demos, and trade shows
Why This Role
  • Work on some of the most advanced CNC equipment available in North America
  • Direct exposure to customers across multiple high-growth manufacturing industries
  • Stable, globally recognized company with 50+ years in the industry
  • Learning environment with tenured engineers — real mentorship and long-term career development
  • Two openings available — strong urgency to hire
What We're NOT Looking For

Pure design engineers without shop floor experience will not be a fit. This role requires someone who has actually programmed and run CNC machines — not just designed around them.

Interested?

If you have 5+ years of hands-on CNC programming and machining experience and are ready to take your career into a customer-facing technical role, we want to hear from you. Send your resume to  or apply directly through this posting.
