Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services 6-12 is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the continuous improvement of all areas of the Educational Services Department for Middle and High School. This includes curriculum and instruction, special education, instructional technology, vocational and continuing education and bilingual education. Through partnership with all stakeholder groups, the Assistant Superintendent sets direction consistent with the district's mission, vision, and core values to support college, career, and life readiness for every learner and ensures that efforts are implemented effectively and lead to a positive impact on learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Direct the administration and coordination of the district's middle and secondary educational programs.
- Provide leadership in the development of effective educational programs for all students within the core curriculum, as well as within tiered student supports, including tiered supports to support all areas of college, career, and life readiness.
- In conjunction with the supervisory staff, principals, and teachers, formulate and encourage innovative curricular programs that improve academic and social emotional outcomes and develop and sustain rigorous and responsive classroom practices and curriculum.
- Oversee efforts to monitor the operation of the instructional programming in all middle and secondary schools for the purpose of evaluating and improving programs, practices, and procedures using coaching, collaboration, modeling, and other supervisory strategies
- Ensure that all students are engaged in a rigorous education resulting in college, career, and life readiness, and oversee the monitoring of academic and emotional health, including using data to reduce subgroup performance gap analysis.
- Oversee planning of professional development programs designed to meet specific identified needs in schools, programs, or job functions, including sessions that build educator capacity and address issues related to equity and differentiated learning.
- Lead the district internal review process for school improvement efforts, in conjunction with monitoring the implementation of the District's Strategic Plan.
- Lead and participate in efforts to support a high-impact workforce through collaborative efforts to support effective practice, focusing on hiring and retention of staff and establishing practices that support staff well-being.
- Facilitate the preparation and implementation of Every Student Succeeds Act legislation and other Federal and State grants, as assigned.
- Enhance school safety and positive climate within all 6-12 schools by implementing district wide safety protocols and coordinating the launch of a climate improvement plan with measurable targets at each school.
- Evaluate Middle and Secondary Principals, as assigned.
- Prepare drafts of needed Board policies and administrative rules for the Superintendent's Senior Leadership team's review and action.
- Prepare and submit annual budget for Educational Services Department for Middle and Secondary Education
- Show strong support and collaboration working closely with the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services Pre-K-5.
- Participate and be involved in the community, collaborating in efforts to engage stakeholders and enhance partnerships with family and community partners.
- Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
EDUCATION
- Preferred Doctorate degree, from an accredited college or university preferred, plus extensive preparation in educational administration and curriculum/instruction.
Experience
- Minimum of ten years of successful experience in teaching, administrative and supervisory fields.
- Extensive experience in curriculum development and in the alignment of K-12 curriculum with standards and assessment.
- Experience in supporting administrators and staff with using the "Problem-Solving Model" and using data to drive instruction.
- Extensive experience and knowledge in relation to instruction and instructional processes and in facilitating the delivery of "best practice" and research related to curriculum, instruction and assessment.
- Experience and knowledge in relation to systemic improvement processes and quality criteria.
