What You’ll Do
We’re looking for an Advanced R&D Machinist who thrives in a hands‑on environment, enjoys variety in their day, and wants to contribute directly to product innovation to join our R&D team at our Innovation Center in Schiller Park. The Machinist looks at a sketch, visualizes the finished part, and knows exactly how to bring the product to life.
- Interpret Specifications:
Study sketches, models, and descriptions to determine materials, machining approach, and sequence of operations. - Plan & Build Tooling:
Compute dimensions, plan layouts, determine assembly methods, and build tooling to spec within scheduled timelines. - Operate CNC & Manual Machines:
Run lathes, CNC mills, grinders, cutting tables, and other shop equipment with precision. - Verify & Improve Designs:
Check dimensions, alignment and clearances; recommend modifications based on function and manufacturability. - Repair, Modify & Prototype:
Fabricate prototypes, construct fixtures, sharpen tools, and machine close‑tolerance parts. - Maintain Equipment:
Perform routine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized. - Collaborate & Communicate:
Work closely with the Prototype Shop Manager and use Wrike to track timelines and updates.
This position requires a High School Diploma or GED plus a minimum of 2‑5 years of experience setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines.
- Knowledge of Master Cam and Solid Works.
- Ability to resolve day‑to‑day issues by working effectively with others.
- Basic computer skills including competence in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to receive, understand, and follow all written and oral instructions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
A reasonable estimate of the pay range is $32‑38 per hour at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job‑related skills, relevant experience, education, and/or training. Please note that the range details reflect the base pay only and do not include our competitive bonus program.
