Description
Under direct supervision of the Manager of Sommer Park, the Environmental Programmer – Sommer Farm is responsible for the following:
Duties- Deliver and ultimately help design environmental education, living history, and team-building programs for participants of all ages.
- Assist with facility staffing during public hours, special events, and after-hour rentals.
- Assist with Ancient Oaks Summer Day Camp
- Work outside in all weather conditions
- Provide excellent patron service.
- Take reservations for school programs and wedding/private rentals.
- Handle all major forms of payment via the Rec Trac registration system.
- Assist with routine facility and landscaping maintenance, including mowing, brush cutting, trail work, and inspections.
- Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; support all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
QualificationsEducation
: A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Education, History, Biology, or a related field is preferred. Experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
Experience
: A strong interest in, and willingness to learn about, local natural history and human history, as well as informal interpretation/teaching methods.
Knowledge and Ability
:
- Experience in working with animals.
- Experience working harmoniously with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Aptitude for on-the-job training and ability to follow both written and oral instructions.
- Ability to use common computer systems, such as Microsoft Office.
- Ability to learn Rec Trac system.
- Must have a valid Illinois State Driver’s License.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Part-time employees enjoy discounted recreation classes and free admission to select Park District facilities.
