We are working on a sales position that will be an integral part of a up in coming natural foods organization. The Director of Sales will drive sales relationships and strategy in the protein snack space. You will lead sales efforts, driving revenue growth across retail and wholesale channels while identifying new business opportunities, manage sales pipelines, and collaborate with brokers, operations, and marketing teams to align on product launches and promotions.
This position requires strong relationship-building skills, a proven track record in sales the ability to wear multiple hats in a fast-paced startup environment, and independent problem-solving skills. This position is fully remote and reports to the CEO.
Job Responsibilities:- Identify and pursue new retail partnerships, wholesalers, and alternative sales opportunities to expand their distribution network.
- Research market trends, competitor activities, and potential leads to build a robust sales pipeline.
- Attend industry events and trade shows to generate leads
- Develop and present customized sales pitches, proposals, and product demos to prospective clients.
- Own new customer acquisition across core retail and alternative channels, operating initially as a one-person sales function.
- Drive expansion within alternative channels such as airlines, clubs, and other non-traditional outlets.
- Support major retail launches and expansions, including upcoming national programs.
- Manage existing customer accounts, ensuring high satisfaction, repeat business, and upselling opportunities.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with retailers and distributors to maximize profitability and shelf space.
- Coordinate with operations to handle order fulfillment, inventory availability, and any supply chain issues impacting sales.
- Resolve customer inquiries, complaints, and issues promptly to maintain strong relationships.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for UNFI and KeHE, managing distributor relationships, line reviews, and ongoing execution
- Take ownership of backend sales execution, including follow-through on action items, distributor reporting, and internal communication.
- Build scalable sales processes and account management discipline as the business grows.
- Maintain accurate sales forecasts based on historical data, market insights, and team inputs.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as revenue growth, velocities, and distributor reports
- Generate monthly sales reports and dashboards to highlight performance, variances, and recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with marketing to align on promotional strategies and measure their impact on sales.
- Use data and analytics to inform pricing, assortment, and distribution decisions.
- Optimize sales strategies for retailers and distributors
- Work with the team to develop incentive programs, merchandising guidelines, and tools to boost sales efficiency.
- Monitor inventory levels in collaboration with operations to prevent stockouts and support closeout sales for at-risk products.
- Partner closely with the CEO, providing transparency and trust while operating independently day to day
- Support the launch of new product lines and reformulations, including upcoming innovation initiatives.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of sales experience in a food CPG environment with high to medium growth companies
- Broker management experience in specialty, natural, and/or organic channels is preferred
- Excellent communicator and relationship builder.
- Experience working with Kehe and UNFI
- Proficient in PowerPoint and building sales decks
- Self-motivated and autonomous.
- Positive attitude, adaptable to change.
- Strong organizational and negotiation skills.
- Comfortable operating in a startup environment with limited structure and high ownership
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and reliable in follow-through and execution.
- Analytical and process-minded, with the ability to manage both front-end selling and backend execution.
- Hungry to grow — motivated by building something, not cruising in a maintenance role.
- Trusted self-starter who can take ownership and run with opportunities while keeping leadership informed.
