The Borough of Topton, Berks County, PA is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Works Laborer/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training. The duties of this position include maintaining borough parks and other property; assisting in maintenance, repair, and construction of roads; performing various maintenance tasks; collecting leaves and branches seasonally; park maintenance; road work and road maintenance, including mowing, planting, trimming, pruning, and snow plowing.

This position requires knowledge of basic computer skills for data entry, report filing, record keeping, and SCADA monitoring. Successful applicants must work “on call” and must work two hours at the wastewater treatment plant every other Saturday and Sunday.

• Maintain borough parks and property.
• Assist in maintenance, repair, and construction of roads in the Borough.
• Perform various maintenance and construction tasks.
• Collect leaves and branches seasonally.
• Conduct park maintenance, road work, and road maintenance, including mowing, planting, trimming, pruning, and snow plowing.
• Operate specialized heavy equipment (preferred).
• Use SCADA for monitoring wastewater treatment operations.
• Work on call and attend the wastewater treatment plant for two hours every other Saturday and Sunday.
• Lift up to 50 lbs.

• History of safe work habits and courteous public interaction.
• Experience working as part of a team.
• Experience in parks and road maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• PA CDL Class B preferred (not required).
• Two-year college degree or technical training preferred.
• Knowledge and experience with wastewater collection, processing, and testing systems preferred.
• Must obtain Pennsylvania DEP Certificate for Wastewater within two years of employment.
• Background check and pre-employment screening required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
