Equipment Service Technician

Job Purpose

Our Equipment Service Technician will install and repair worn or defective equipment at customer sites by following blueprints, manufacturer’s instructions, and leveraging knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical machinery. The position also operates equipment through trial runs to ensure that quality and production rates meet specifications.

• Perform repair, maintenance, and start‑up on stretch wrappers, shrink wrappers, case sealing, case erectors, label printer/applicators, strapping equipment, and assorted products at customer and Veritiv company sites.
• Support systems integration with customers, manufacturers, suppliers, and other service personnel involving machine problems and/or turnkey systems.
• Conduct sophisticated electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulics, and electro‑mechanical tests, repairs, and maintenance on equipment, assemblies, sub‑assemblies, and parts to ensure operation according to manufacturer specifications.
• Perform setup calibration, testing, mechanical assemblies, and troubleshooting of circuits, components, and instruments using complex blueprints and electrical schematics.
• Provide subject‑matter expertise, trainings, and product demonstrations of Veritiv packaging systems and related equipment as needed.
• Generate quotes and estimates for preventative and planned maintenance of machines.
• Complete field service work orders, including billing of travel, labor hours, parts, and other related items, in a timely and accurate manner.

• Strong knowledge of electrical schematics, symbols, and power flow through circuitry; familiarity with lockout/tagout and safety procedures.
• Ability to install, troubleshoot, train on, and work with most equipment, including semi‑automatic systems.
• Read and interpret pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical drawings for complex installation and troubleshooting of equipment sold by Veritiv.
• Understand AC and DC voltages and use an electric meter in troubleshooting scenarios.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot micro‑logic devices, electrical, pneumatic, and PLC ladder logic.
• PLC skills: write simple logic, interface basic equipment, and make simple program changes; formal PLC training completed.
• Certifications from manufacturer trainings on stretch wrappers, shrink wrappers, case sealers, case erectors, label printers, and strapping equipment are a plus.
• Minimum three years in a service support organization; valid driver’s license and clean driving record; occasional overnight travel, including long‑distance driving and air travel.

• Five to ten years of related job experience.
• Manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.
• Work quickly and efficiently.
• Experience in distribution management (customer service, sales, purchasing, warehouse, credit, information systems, and logistics), preferably from a large or decentralized organization.
• Basic experience with simple office/operational systems.
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and diplomacy skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong planning and organization skills.

High School Diploma/GED preferred.

• Lift and handle parts up to 75 pounds.
• Work in industrial environments, including ladders, lifts, and high‑elevation or low‑elevation areas under equipment.
• Operate in fast‑paced industrial and food production settings.
