Overview
Fort Delaware is a historic site built to protect the ports of Wilmington and Philadelphia. It also served as a Union prison camp during the American Civil War, housing over 10,000 Confederate prisoners of war at one time.
SummaryA variety of seasonal park positions are available at Fort Delaware State Park, including the following:
- Grounds Maintenance: $15.00/hr. – responsible for the maintenance of grounds, facilities, and equipment, including lawn mowing and custodial work. The schedule is Monday–Friday.
- Revenue Attendant (Fee Collector): $15.00/hr. – will sell ferry tickets, park permits, and retail items; provide customer service by explaining regulations, answering visitor requests, and providing information about the park and surrounding areas.
- Tram Operator: $15.00/hr. – responsible for transporting visitors to and from the fort via truck and trailer.
Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays as scheduled and must be willing to work around boats and water.
Essential Functions / ResponsibilitiesEssential functions are core duties common to all positions in this class series. Duties may vary by position and may include related tasks not explicitly listed.

- Operate landscaping equipment and use hand and power tools where applicable.
- Perform custodial services in restrooms, offices, and other buildings.
- Assist in electrical and plumbing maintenance as needed.
- Set up, monitor, and clean up park programs and special events.
- Collect appropriate fees and account for money.
- Maintain and compile fiscal and narrative records and reports.
- Safely load visitors and staff and transport them to and from the fort.
- Provide excellent customer service and park information to visitors.
- Demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills; be able to work independently.
- Other duties as assigned.

Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Grounds Maintenance- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Experience using landscaping equipment and hand or power tools. (Grounds only)
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License (not suspended, revoked, cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
- Six months customer service experience.
- Six months experience in sales and cash handling.
- Six months experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, or databases.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Six months experience operating a truck and trailer.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is non-pension eligible and does not include healthcare or other benefits.
