Position Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician

Full-time/Part-Time: Full-Time Hourly (40 hours/week)

Position Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the buildings according to the school’s mission, goals, and operational budget. The Technician ensures the cleanliness, safety, maintenance, operations, and enhancement of the buildings, equipment, systems, and campus assets and works in partnership with the Facilities Leadership Team. The Technician reports on a regular schedule while providing flexible and on‑call support for safety, security, special events, and the overall well‑being of the campus.

Responsibilities
  • Provides tradesperson support and backup support for general repairs, maintenance, and janitorial work associated with the school, special events, and student projects as needed.
  • Performs, coordinates and oversees scheduling of routine equipment maintenance and safety maintenance in collaboration with the Facilities Leadership Team.
  • Daily cleanup of on‑demand waste issues on campus, including bathroom janitorial work, spot rug and floor cleaning, animal excrement, leaf blowing, garbage collection, water spills, blood borne pathogens, and other campus waste.
  • Ensures all mechanical, electrical, and fire safety equipment is maintained in accordance with local, state, and federal safety codes, including monthly inspection of the wheelchair lift.
  • Supports oversight of the work performed by all personnel contracted by the school for facility upkeep, repair, and maintenance.
  • Supports internal and external service providers to ensure efficient and professional maintenance service, including inspection of contracted work, development of punch lists, and follow‑through on punch list items.
  • Coordinates with the Facilities Leadership Team and Events Team on all school events, including set‑up and breakdown, and is in attendance at all special events.
  • Twice daily bathroom restocking of supplies in all bathrooms.
  • Assists with the coordination of and physically takes unscheduled trash, recycling, e‑waste, or yard waste to the dump.
  • Abates animals, dead or alive, that encroach on usable campus space.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Strong working knowledge of carpentry and housekeeping, with a fundamental knowledge of architecture, engineering, and construction management; the ability to read and interpret building, engineering, and electrical drawings is desirable.
  • Demonstrated expertise and aptitude for administration, management, construction, mechanical equipment, computer usage, purchasing, supervision, security, and general services.
  • Experience with green and sustainable buildings and landscaping is desirable, including irrigation controls, pumps, rainwater catchment, and cistern operations.
  • Proven management skills in personnel, time, cost, quality, facility, troubleshooting, and property management.
  • A minimum of five years of related experience equal in scope to the duties required for this position.
  • 4‑year college degree or trades degree in facility management or equivalent life experience.
  • Computer literate and able to prepare computer‑generated reports, use electronic email, basic word processing, Google platform, and willing to learn additional programs as needed.
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) and confidence in conveying information to all types of community members.
  • Excellent time management skills for short‑ and long‑term planning.
  • Possession of own vehicle, current California driver’s license, clean driving record through DMV, and current vehicle insurance.
  • No state or federal criminal activity and/or history.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Frequently lift equipment and materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Crawl, climb ladders, twist, turn, and reach to complete a variety of job duties.
  • Work outside in hot or cold conditions for extended periods.
  • Work in a wide variety of environments found in all areas of the school.
  • Able to operate vehicles and machines.
