What You ll Do

YWCA owns and manages over twenty buildings in King & Snohomish County. The Facilities Technician will be responsible for maintaining multiple aspects of facility maintenance for the diverse portfolio of YWCA buildings. You will also use a variety of skills to perform common duties which assure the safety of our tenants and staff. You will help oversee the general and detailed maintenance program as well as working closely with fellow staff and vendors to provide critical coordination, communication and information for the safe and efficient functioning of facilities and housing.

This position has a social justice component that will require critical thinking around how the external systems impact the work that we are doing through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism work and grounding those principles in everyday work, as well as working well in non-white environments and championing anti-racism policy, are required job skills and core values.

Optional On-Site Housing Benefit

To support work-life balance and provide added flexibility, this role may include the option to live on-site in a private Common Area Unit (CAU) at no cost. In exchange, the Maintenance Technician provides limited after-hours on-call and emergency support for the property. Participation is completely optional and based on availability and operational needs.

Expectations for your role
  • Complete work orders within the expected timeframe. Track and record process.
  • Experience in unit turns, painting, drywall, plumbing repairs, troubleshoot electrical, ballast changing, cleaning, rekeying, light carpentry repairs and general repairs to all building systems of common areas.
  • Assist and support in the administration of all maintenance related functions including tracking of inventory, data entry, and maintaining safety records within YWCA documents.
  • Assist the Ops Manager in all aspects of the community’s physical upkeep, common grounds, areas, keeping areas clean and safe for all residents and employees.
  • Assist in scheduling or performing proper testing, regular inspections, and maintenance of community and preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) in units including pumps, boilers, fire control systems, elevators, backup generators, smoke, and carbon monoxide detector systems in units. Oversee contractors when professional services and repairs are necessary.
  • Promptly available to on-call responses to after-hours building emergencies
  • Ensure all communication projects, messages and requests are within the overall strategy and aligned with company-wide messaging throughout YWCA.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, vendors, residents, and clients.
  • Continues search for understanding of racial, gender and class equity.
Must haves to be successful
  • 2-3 Years  experience of HANDS-ON facility maintenance or building trades with a focus on painting and drywall experience
  • Basic computer skills that can operate under work order Apps
  • Team player that can work effectively and diplomatically with site personnel and supervisors
  • Working knowledge of building and mechanical systems
  • Knowledge and experience working with a variety of power and hand tools
  • Possess the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of carpentry, cabinetry, painting, and drywall
