The Building Operations Section in the Facilities Management Division (FMD) is seeking a reliable Lead Custodian to lead our Floor Care operations.
Reporting location:
King County Courthouse, downtown Seattle, WA. Travel is required.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 3:00PM - 11:30PM (shift location and schedule may change based on business and operational needs at management's discretion). This position is non‑exempt and overtime eligible.
- Prioritize, schedule, assign, and oversee the work of custodians and floor care staff; monitor their work in progress.
- Train custodians and floor care crew and perform administrative duties.
- Follow‑up with Supervisor to evaluate performance and resolve issues.
- Prioritize emergency tasks in the absence of on‑site supervision; respond to emergency calls as necessary.
- Review, assign, and follow‑up on maintenance work orders; including timesheet review and completion of other necessary paperwork.
- Provide input to supervisors for performance feedback and coaching; investigate and address performance and conduct issues in a timely manner.
- Perform duties of custodian and floor care classifications as assigned, including mixing and using cleaning chemicals and solutions.
- Sweep and mop various types of floors; vacuum and extract dirt from carpet.
- Clean, stock and sanitize restrooms; dust, wipe, wash and vacuum surfaces; empty trash and recycle bins.
- Load and unload debris and trash; request and stock supplies; clean glass and surfaces.
- Use and care of all custodial and floor care equipment; wash floors with specialized equipment; strip and wax floors; shampoo carpets with specialized equipment.
- Safely operate equipment and County‑owned vehicles.
- Other duties as assigned.
- At least three years of experience performing the work of a custodian or floor care and able to work independently and with a team.
- At least one year of experience demonstrating skills in a leadership role.
- Skills in using a computer, specifically Maximo and Microsoft Outlook.
- Predictable and reliable attendance.
- Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and be able to travel to multiple worksites.
- Must pass a thorough fingerprint‑based background check, a pre‑employment physical examination, and reference checks.
- Knowledge and experience in floor care principles and operating specialized floor care equipment.
- Planning, coordinating and evaluating the work of others.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Expressing and conveying ideas effectively with the public and tenants.
- Providing training to others; problem‑solving skills; practicing and administering basic safety rules.
- Proper use and care of all custodial equipment.
- Position is represented by the Service Employees International Union, Local 925.
- This position is Mission‑Critical in an Emergency, meaning functions cannot be delayed during emergencies.
