Cleaning Services, Maintenance Worker
Position Overview
Janitors to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming indoor event spaces at Seattle Center (e.g., Armory, Fisher Pavilion, McCaw Hall). Duties include pre‑ and post‑event sanitation, high‑traffic restroom maintenance, floor care, and crowd‑facing customer assistance. Positions are available for first and second shifts and for the on‑call pool.
Responsibilities- Extensive cleaning and monitoring of bathrooms during business hours and busy events.
- Perform routine preventive and predictive cleaning activities including high dusting; specialized cleaning of carpet, vinyl tile, resilient floor and concrete surfaces; and restocking supplies in bathroom areas in a fast‑paced, crowded environment.
- Provide uplifting customer service while answering general customer questions.
- Handle and dispose of litter, garbage and recycling, including the removal of contaminated materials.
- Transport materials, equipment and supplies required to complete assigned work.
- Maintain equipment in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Assist with routine facility maintenance.
- Remove graffiti from various surfaces; use work management system to report information.
- Operate riding commercial floor scrubbers, high‑speed floor burnishers, carpet shampooers, and other small to high‑capacity cleaning equipment.
- Assist with moving furniture and other objects.
- Willing to work day and night shifts, 3–6 days a week, 362 days a year, including weekends and holidays.
- Willing and able to work with cleaning chemicals and read Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Two years of janitorial or custodial experience within large public assembly venues, convention centers, or high‑traffic public spaces.
- Proven success executing deep‑cleaning, sanitization, and waste management programs across varied commercial environments.
- Basic computer skills.
- Familiarity operating industrial cleaning equipment such as power scrubbers and floor‑finish machines.
- Ability to work within a diverse workforce, demonstrate cultural sensitivity and inclusion, and be effective in a team setting or alone after being given oral or written instructions.
- Exhibit excellent customer service skills with ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting of 25 pounds and occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Handling or working with cleaning supplies.
- May be required to work on ladders above ground level.
The full pay range for this step‑progression position is $28.14–$30.30 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 ($28.14). On‑Call employees begin at Step 1 and receive premium pay ranging from 5% to 25% above the base rate.
