Job Summary

A Housekeeper in a long‑term care facility is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for residents and staff. This includes cleaning resident rooms, common areas, and long‑term care facilities, performing tasks such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, and changing linens.

Essential Duties and

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform day‑to‑day housekeeping functions as assigned.
  • Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
  • Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, and other surfaces in resident rooms and recreational areas daily as instructed.
  • Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures, ensuring watermarks are removed.
  • Clean windows and mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
  • Clean floors, including sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting.
  • Clean carpets, including vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting.
  • Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing.
  • Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, and other debris from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
  • Perform terminal cleaning procedures when a resident is discharged or transferred, and clean vacant rooms as assigned.
  • Discard waste and trash into proper containers and reline receptacles with plastic liners.
  • Ensure work areas, equipment, and supplies are stored properly and remain clean before leaving for breaks, meals, and end of the day.
  • Maintain assigned areas in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.
  • Adhere to infection control and universal precautions practices when performing housekeeping.
  • Coordinate routine/terminal isolation procedures with nursing care, ensuring thorough cleaning and disinfection after residents leave isolation rooms.
  • Report hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisors.
  • Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.
  • Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with sanitation procedures.
  • Keep work areas free of hazardous objects such as protruding mop or broom handles and unnecessary equipment.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Experience with various cleaning methods and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Capacity for standing, walking, and performing repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate with staff and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members.
  • 18 years or older.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Preferred experience in housekeeping within a medical facility.
  • Maintain tactful composure and confidentiality with residents, family, staff, and visitors.
