Summary
King County Metro Transit’s Rail Division is hiring multiple Rail Station Custodians to maintain cleanliness of light rail stations, elevators, escalators, park and rides, right‑of‑ways, and associated industrial facilities.
Responsibilities- Secure work areas and maintain safety during cleaning.
- Clean stations, platforms, park and rides, and industrial facilities; perform litter and trash pick‑up.
- Load and unload equipment, debris, and trash.
- Mix and use cleaning chemicals and solutions.
- Empty trash and recycle bins.
- Operate pressure washers, floor scrubbers, blasters, and related equipment.
- Clean, stock, and sanitize restrooms and elevators.
- Use lift equipment for high‑place cleaning.
- Dust, wipe, wash, and vacuum surfaces.
- Request and stock supplies as needed.
- Clean glass and surfaces; remove graffiti.
- Respond to emergency calls and prioritize tasks in the absence of on‑site supervision.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate activities, and cooperate with other trades.
- Perform snow and ice removal.
- Operate company‑assigned vehicles.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- At least one year of recent industrial cleaning or janitorial experience.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial techniques, equipment care, safety rules, OSHA regulations, and chemical use and disposal.
- Ability to use basic computer software and communicate in English.
- Skills in reading and following safety instructions, handling cleaning supplies, and dealing with diverse customers and coworkers.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and problem‑solve common issues.
- Basic oral and written communication skills.
Special Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable record; out‑of‑state candidates must obtain a Washington state license within 30 days of hire.
- Forklift, aerial lift, and first‑aid/CPR certifications to be acquired within 90 days of hire.
- Constantly lift, carry, and move objects less than 25 pounds.
- Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted; up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Work at heights up to 40 feet.
- Walk continuously throughout the workday.
Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Employees must be able to work any of the three shifts (day, swing, or graveyard) and may have non‑standard hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Work Location- Operations & Maintenance Facility (OMF) Central – 3407 Airport Way S., Seattle, WA.
- Operations & Maintenance Facility (OMF) East – th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA.
- Maintenance of Way North (MOWN) – N. 137th St., Seattle, WA.
- Additional future Sound Transit Link facilities.
Position represented by Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Local 587.
