Ship Fitter
This is a waterfront shipboard construction and re-modernization position, working within shipyards and drydocks onboard U.S. Naval ships. The incumbent will work in varying temperatures and perform the following tasks:
- Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, troubleshoots, modifies, constructs, and tests mechanical equipment and related devices.
- Troubleshoots and corrects structural placement.
- Makes recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems.
- May provide operation and maintenance instruction to customer personnel.
- Performs preventative maintenance.
- Participates in special projects, as required.
Required Skills &
Qualifications:
- Blueprint reading, metal fabrication, grinding, cutting (torch/plasma), welding knowledge.
- Experience with heavy machinery (plate rolls, presses) and hand/power tools.
- Strength, endurance, ability to work in confined spaces and outdoors.
- Associate's degree in a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, certifications or training, or work experience.
- 1‑3 years of directly related experience supporting engineering operations.
- U.S. citizenship required.
Education: Associate of Arts/Associate of Science (or equivalent technical degree).
Location: On customer site in USA, WA Seattle (additional sites possible).
Work Hours: 40 hours per week.
Travel: 10‑25%.
Compensation: Likely hourly rate $26.35 - $35.65, subject to experience and location.
