How Your Role Fits In

As a Building Maintenance Specialist at our Tukwila Distribution Center, you will lead the day-to-day workflow of general maintenance and repairs of the Distribution Center, material handling equipment, and grounds. Complex repairs and/or maintenance tasks involving racking, HVAC, and/or electrical will be considered out of the scope of the Building Maintenance Specialist. Furthermore, in the event there is a discrepancy as to whether a repair and/or maintenance task is considered "complex", the Building Maintenance Specialist will consult with the DCM and WOW's R&M Manager to determine whether such repair and/or maintenance task can be performed without proper certification or licensure.

This role will also help ensure the Distribution Center meets all safety, health, and company compliance with regulated policies and procedures (OSHA and EPA) on both the Federal and State levels with ability the to learn about food regulation (FSMA, FDA, USDA).

What you'll do:

  • Inspect building and communicate with management regarding proper grounds keeping and general cleanup and maintenance that need to be performed to plan work priorities, obtain necessary supplies, and assess skills needed to complete tasks.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal departments, external vendors, and contractors to ensure timely completion of repairs, maintenance projects, material handling equipment, and renovations. Inspects and approves work performed by outside contractors.
  • Conduct audit walks of facilities and audits material handling equipment to identify safety, health, and environmental risks. Follows established preventive maintenance schedules and guidelines.
  • Assists and performs with installation, maintenance, repair and minor construction work, such as carpentry and painting.
  • Ensures safe operation of equipment used to move and transport materials to and from the storage areas of the facility.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, optimize resource allocation, and enhance overall maintenance and equipment effectiveness.
  • Aid in the development of standard operating procedures that will promote the company's safety culture and provide guidance.
  • Collaborates with team of support staff delegating assignments based on team members skills and experience; assists team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments, inspects work performed by team members.
  • Provide support staff with training, coaching and feedback on performance evaluations.
  • Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Member of the Food Safety Team.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What it takes to succeed:

  • Experience – 2 years relevant building maintenance, construction, or facilities management
  • Computer Skills
    - Basic PC skills. Position will utilize Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, and MS Outlook).
  • Solid understanding of cost control, and financial analysis related to maintenance operations.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and procedures, and the ability to ensure compliance within company and food grade facility regulations.
  • Ability to work multiple hours in a cooler and ambient temperature warehouse environment
