Position Overview
Floor Care Custodian – responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of floors in King County buildings.
Shift: Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM.
Location:
Downtown Seattle. Overtime eligible and full‑time (40 hours per week). This position is represented by SEIU Local 925 and requires a background check and physical examination.
- Restore, strip, wax, steam clean and extract carpets using specialized floor equipment.
- Operate and maintain floor care equipment, including shop vacuums, mops, scrub pads, scrapers, motorized burnishes, scrubbers, and extraction machines.
- Safely operate equipment and County‑owned vehicles.
- Perform other custodial duties as assigned.
- At least one year of demonstrated building maintenance, floor care or custodial experience.
- Demonstrated skill operating specialized floor equipment.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial cleaning techniques, cleaning chemicals and safety rules.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and lift, carry or move up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Effective communication and timely reporting of concerns or issues.
- Ability to assess flooring conditions, determine appropriate action steps, and coordinate with co‑workers, leads and supervisors.
- Reliable attendance record.
- Candidate will demonstrate skill operating floor equipment during a practical exercise.
