The Building Operations Section in the King County Facilities Management Division is seeking dependable Floor Care Custodians who will maintain the cleanliness and appearance of floors in county buildings and other applicable locations. Candidates must be able to complete projects independently or with a team.
Schedule and Location- Shift: Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (subject to change).
- Location:
Downtown Seattle. - Shift flexibility may be required; employees must be available to work the listed hours.
- Restore floors using specialized floor equipment.
- Strip and wax floors with specialized floor equipment.
- Steam clean and extract carpets with specialized floor equipment.
- Perform assigned maintenance on various floors utilizing specialized equipment.
- Maintain assigned equipment and tools.
- Safely operate equipment and County-owned vehicles.
- Perform other custodial duties as assigned.
- At least one year of demonstrated building maintenance, floor‑care, or custodial experience.
- Demonstrated skill operating specialized floor equipment.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial cleaning techniques and standards, cleaning chemicals, and safety rules.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and lift, carry, move, or handle up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Effective communication skills and timely reporting of concerns or issues.
- Ability to assess flooring conditions, determine proper action steps, and work through difficult projects in coordination with co‑workers, Lead & Supervisor.
- Identification of various flooring types and their required maintenance or restoration.
- Continuously reliable attendance record.
- Overtime eligible;
Full‑time positions work 40 hours per week. - The shift is Monday – Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM.
- Central location is Downtown Seattle.
- This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union, Local 925.
- Requires a thorough background check and physical examination prior to hire.
- Designated Mission Critical in emergencies, meaning duties cannot be delayed during an emergency.
- Open to all qualified candidates.
- Requires completion of the King County Application.
