Position Summary

We are seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our collaborative Facilities team and help maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-functioning campus for our students, employees, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general building maintenance and minor repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, carpentry, fixture, and lighting work.
  • Respond to work orders and facilities requests, prioritizing assignments based on urgency, safety, and operational needs.
  • Conduct routine campus inspections and identify maintenance, cleanliness, or safety concerns requiring attention.
  • Help keep campus grounds and building exteriors clean, safe, and welcoming, including removing litter, graffiti, stickers, leaves, snow, and ice as needed.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and minor building improvement projects.
  • Troubleshoot common facilities issues and either complete repairs or help determine when specialized vendor support is needed.
  • Assist with clearing clogged drains and addressing other routine plumbing issues.
  • Build, assemble, install, or repair simple furnishings, shelving, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Move and arrange furniture, equipment, appliances, and other materials as needed.
  • Support school events by setting up and breaking down furniture, equipment, and spaces.
  • Respond promptly to spills, leaks, safety concerns, and other unexpected facilities needs.
  • Assist with opening campus buildings, including disarming security systems and unlocking designated spaces.
  • Use appropriate signage and safety procedures when performing work that may affect students, employees, or visitors.
  • Maintain accurate and timely updates in the school’s work-order management system.
  • Work collaboratively with Facilities team members and outside vendors on maintenance and campus improvement projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is dependable, service-oriented, and enjoys solving problems and working with their hands. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently while also being an active member of a small, collaborative team.

Ideal candidates will bring:
  • General building maintenance, facilities, construction, handyman, or related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of one or more areas such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, or general repair—or a demonstrated willingness and ability to learn.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work requests.
  • A collaborative, responsive, and customer-service-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work respectfully and professionally in a school environment around students and employees.
  • Comfort using basic technology to receive, track, and document work assignments.
  • Ability to safely meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The Northwest School fosters a warm, inclusive community grounded in our school values. We believe a diverse community strengthens our institution and makes it more creative and dynamic. We strongly encourage candidates from historically underrepresented backgrounds to apply.
