The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. Natureof Work
This position is the crew leader level of maintenance or construction work on facilities such as bridges, buildings, bulkheads, highways, parking areas, piers, railroads, ramps, roads, taxiways, tunnels, or adjacent areas of the Maryland Department of Transportation.
Duties for this position- Oversees a crew in the maintenance of bridges, roadways, buildings, structures, and motorized equipment;
- Leads the work of the unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled work crews at each phase of a project;
- Performs winter storm activities for snow removal and de-icing of facilities;
- Ensures all materials and equipment are used correctly;
- Coaches lower-level Facilities Maintenance Technicians; and
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections of specialized areas and features located throughout the facilities.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a Facility Maintenance Supervisor or other designated official. This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion, which is performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside an MDOT building. On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds and may also be required to work at high elevations or perform their job in cramped quarters in buildings or underground.
Employees in this class are considered essential employees and are subject to call‑in 24 hours a day, as may be required to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies at other facilities, throughout the Maryland Transportation Authority.
Note:
The current vacancy at Baltimore Harbor Tunnel is a night shift position with the hours of 6:30 PM - 5:00 AM. The current vacancies at the Francis Scott Key Bridge and John
F. Kennedy Highway Maintenance Facility 2 are day shift positions with the hours of 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Shift and location availability may be subject to change.

Minimum Qualifications- Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of high school equivalency certificate.
- Experience: Three (3) years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance, or skilled trades work.
- Applicants must possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), valid in the State of Maryland. Applicants must list the license Class, Number and Expiration Date on the application.
- Work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.
- U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
