The Department of Facilities and Operations is responsible for the City’s physical spaces, including buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. This department ensures that these spaces are safe, comfortable, efficient, and sustainable, while also supporting the organization’s objectives. Maintaining the cleanliness of the facilities and surrounding grounds is of the upmost importance, while providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Under direction of the Director of Facilities & Operations, this position is responsible for performing basic upkeep, repairs, and routine maintenance to ensure the functionality, safety, and cleanliness of facilities. This role supports the team in maintaining facilities, grounds, and equipment, while adhering to established safety standards, policies and procedures. The employee will collaborate with supervisors and co-workers to prioritize tasks and ensure timely completion of duties.

It is imperative job duties are performed with respect, integrity, objectivity and in the best interest of the City. All City employees are expected to be honest and truthful at all times.

This position works 7am - 3pm Mondays
- Fridays with potential for some infrequent weekend work if deemed necessary by the Department Head.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Maintains the cleanliness, sanitation andsafety of both the interior and exterior of City owned buildings.
  • Performs groundskeeping tasks such as landscaping, snow removal, and waste management.
  • Performs general maintenance services such as painting, carpentry, construction, repair and maintenance of buildings and infrastructure.
  • Assists with general maintenance and minor repairs in plumbing, heating and ventilation systems and fixtures, and preventative maintenance and repair.
  • Assists with custodian/janitorial duties of city facilities.
  • Helps identify maintenance issues and works towards resolution of issues.
  • Assists with maintaining building safety and health compliance.
  • Liaisons with consultants, contractors, inspectors, suppliers, and other departments on maintenance and project work.
  • Responds to emergencies regarding maintenance matters, sometimes after normal business hours.
  • Operates related vehicular equipment for maintaining facilities and grounds including XUVs, pickup trucks with plows, and lawnmowers.
  • Acts as resource for administration in regard to facilities management.
  • General Responsibilities:
  • Cleans and organizes maintenance tools, supplies, and work spaces for optimal efficiency.
  • Keeps accurate records and reports.
  • Complies with safety procedures and regulations to prevent accidents and ensure a safe and secure working environment.
  • Performs work duties independently and with minimal supervision.

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Possession and maintenance of valid driver’s license (minimum Class D license).
    • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in maintenance, construction, or related field is preferred, but not required.
    • Basic knowledge of building systems (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC) is preferred.
    • Knowledge of the proper uses and techniques for using materials, equipment and power and hand tools for ground maintenance, repair, construction and other departmental activities.
    • Basic knowledge of current safety standards, and building and grounds maintenance principles, techniques, equipment, materials, and supplies.
    • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safe work practices involved in the operations of the Facilities and Operations Department.
    • Knowledge of basic mathematical principles.
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
