DescriptionThe role of the custodian is to perform routine cleaning, sanitizing, and basic, minor repair tasks to ensure the school facilities and grounds are clean, orderly, safe, and ready for daily operations, special events, and emergency needs. Custodians help protect the health and safety of students, staff, and visitors by following established cleaning protocols, supporting the school’s operations, and assisting in maintaining a positive and functional learning environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS,DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
- Ability to perform manual labor and lift/carry or push/pull heavy and bulky items up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, bend, or reach for extended durations, and occasionally work in inclement weather.
- Ability to strictly adhere to and follow all safety precautions and procedures, including personal protective equipment, handling chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and ladder safety.
- Ability to operate custodial tools and equipment, including hand tools, stepladders, vacuum cleaners, wet vacuums, carpet cleaners, buffers, pressure washers, and auto scrubbers.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to follow oral and written instruction, including safety data sheets and chemical labels.
