Head of Maintenance - Care Home

As a Head of Maintenance at a Barchester care home, you'll be responsible for ensuring the care home environment is clean, well-maintained, and comfortable for both residents and staff. You'll have a hands-on role, carrying out a variety of maintenance tasks across the building, gardens, and grounds, as well as managing a team and liaising with contractors.

Your role as Head of Maintenance will involve a wide range of tasks, from fixing leaky taps to planting new bulbs. You'll need to be comfortable working independently as well as leading a team. You'll also support the General Manager with annual budget planning and liaise with external contractors when necessary. Ensuring the wellbeing of residents is your top priority, so you'll need to be sensitive to their needs when carrying out any work.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You can expect plenty of variety as a Head of Maintenance with us. You'll turn your hand to all sorts of tasks within the care home building as well as in the gardens and grounds. That could mean fixing a leaky tap one minute and planting some new bulbs the next. You should be comfortable working alone, leading a team and supporting the General Manager with annual budget planning.

We'll also need you to liaise with contractors on jobs that fall outside the expertise of your team.

ABOUT YOU
The wellbeing of our residents will be your number one priority as a Head of Maintenance at Barchester you'll make sure all work is carried out with sensitivity to their needs. With hands‑on experience of property maintenance, you'll have at least one trade skill and, ideally, a proven ability to undertake a wide range of maintenance tasks. You should be reliable and flexible when it comes to your working hours.

This role also calls for a full UK driving licence, IT literacy and GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent).

• You'll need hands‑on experience of property maintenance, with at least one trade skill and the ability to undertake a variety of maintenance tasks. A full UK driving licence, IT literacy, and GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent) are also required.
