Job Overview
Position: Building Service Worker (Shift I, flexible start time between 4:00-6:00pm)
Location: Silver Spring International Middle School, Silver Spring, Maryland.
Grade: 06 Senior Qualified (Grade
6)
Schedule: Part‑time, 0.500 (.5) (40 hours bi‑weekly), 12 working months.
Shift: Evening (Shift I).
Pay: $20.00–$28.53 per hour based on position responsibilities.

ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, performs building cleaning and facilities maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. Duties include varied building cleaning responsibilities and related facilities and grounds maintenance tasks. Employees receive on‑job training in the application of simple manual skills and use of cleaning and grounds tools and equipment, and supplies to clean interior of buildings and maintain grounds. Work requires sustained physical effort, heavy lifting of furniture and equipment, and exposure to accident and injury hazards and disagreeable elements.
Employees may be assigned responsibility for checking or operating heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning equipment. Employees in these classes are considered emergency personnel and must report to buildings during inclement weather.
(Optional) Possession of a current and valid certificate indicating proficiency in the safe operation of low‑pressure boilers.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of the methods, materials and practices of building and grounds work; ability to operate and maintain custodial and grounds care equipment (scrubbers, snow blowers, burnishers, hydraulic lifts); use of personal protective equipment and other safety tools and practices; monitors building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment; possesses basic knowledge of emergency response procedures; and knowledge of and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education,Training, and Experience
Completion of the ninth grade required. High School or GED diploma preferred. Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform the position may be considered.
