Overview
Summary Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. This is the entry and general worker level in the building service staff positions. Employees receive on the job training in the application of simple manual skill and use of cleaning and grounds tools and equipment, and supplies to clean interior of buildings and maintain grounds.
The work is repetitive and requires sustained physical effort and may involve some heavy lifting; employees may be exposed to accident and injury hazards and disagreeable elements. Employees in this class are considered emergency personnel and are required to report to buildings during inclement weather. This position may require overtime or night work. Wage range: $20.65 – $26.16 per hour (based on years of service).

Responsibilities- Perform building cleaning, facilities and grounds maintenance in schools and administrative buildings.
- Receive on‑the‑job training in the use of cleaning and grounds tools and equipment and supplies.
- Move or lift furniture and equipment as part of routine cleaning and maintenance (physical demands may include lifting heavy objects).
- Maintain safe and secure building spaces and grounds and follow emergency facility procedures.
- Report to buildings during inclement weather as required; assist in emergencies as needed.
- Provide proper attire and uniforms as required.
- Some knowledge of methods, materials and practices of building and grounds work.
- Ability to learn to operate and maintain custodial and grounds care equipment and proper use of cleaning supplies and chemicals.
- Ability to monitor building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Basic knowledge of emergency facility response procedures.
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate with customers.
- Knowledge of and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the SSPGS (Supporting Services Professional Growth System).
- Completion of the ninth grade required; high school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds.
- Other combinations of education and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.
