The Custodial team is an essential part of the Sioux Falls School District. Our goal is to create a safe and healthy environment for students. We are looking to add flexible and dedicated members to our team who are motivated to help achieve and maintain this goal.

REQUIREMENTS

The District accepts applications for custodial trainee positions year-round. Multiple positions are available. A post-offer criminal background check, drug screen, and physical (funded by the District) are required prior to starting. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to drive to multiple locations during a shift. Good physical health including the ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places, and work at those places. Must pass a pre-employment physical if hired. Constant hand-eye coordination, standing, walking, and repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, and stooping. Occasional climbing and crawling.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Good attendance. Ability to communicate and follow written and oral instructions in English, with or without a communication device. Ability to recognize equipment malfunctions. Positive attitude towards colleagues, cooperative work ethic, willingness to accept instructions and training. Ability to work modified assignments as necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

• Maintain cleanliness of District buildings, including sweeping, dusting, arranging furniture, emptying trash and pencil sharpeners, and cleaning whiteboards and chalkboards.
• Wash walls, woodwork, and windows.
• Clean and polish metal surfaces.
• Maintain floors—hard and soft surfaces—through cleaning and polishing.
• Wet mop and spot clean floors.
• Sanitize and deodorize restrooms and locker rooms.
• Assist in maintaining lawns, landscaping, concrete, blacktop surfaces, and playgrounds, including snow and ice removal.
• Operate heating, A/C, ventilation, electrical, and mechanical systems, limited to turning equipment on/off and setting cycles.
• Assist in setting up and tearing down for school activities.
• Report needed repairs of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and buildings.
• Secure building rooms at shift end.
• Work on a revised schedule and substitute for other custodial staff as needed.
• Share responsibilities for holiday, extended-day, and weekend activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

PAY INFORMATION

Starting salary is $19.30 per hour plus a shift differential of $0.50 per hour, totaling $19.80 per hour.

Pay day is the last working day of each month.
