State Equipment Fleet is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Paid training is available for qualified applicants to obtain a CDL.
What you will be doing:- Professionally maintain all heavy‑ and light‑duty equipment and vehicles used in construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other agency vehicles.
- Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems using a variety of techniques and methods. Perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a range of heavy equipment.
- Diagnose, maintain, repair, and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission systems, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems (air and electrical) for light and heavy‑duty equipment.
As part of the State Equipment Fleet (SEF) team, you will directly support the department mission of “Keeping Alaskans Moving through Service and Infrastructure.” SEF’s mission is to provide all state agencies with safe, economical vehicles. Your work keeps essential vehicles and equipment on roads and runways, helping Alaskans move safely across the state.

Working environment you can expectPosition located at MP 81 Elliott Highway, Livengood, AK. Traveling in small planes to maintain equipment in remote locations is possible, with day trips and overnight stays.

- Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) obtained within 120 days of hire.
- Must provide a copy of your Class A CDL, front and back, if applicable.
- Provides professional references (three names, titles, phone numbers).
- Must have and operate appropriate hand tools; receives a bi‑weekly tool allowance.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug test before starting.
Applicants must submit proof of education. Transcripts are required; unofficial copies are acceptable if institution name is listed.
