Senior Accountant – Accounts Payable to join the Sterling Healthcare Management Team!

We are growing healthcare management company operating multiple skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. We’re seeking a Senior Accountant with a strong Accounts Payable background to join our Chicago-based finance team. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, multi‑entity environment and is ready to own processes end‑to‑end.

You will work directly alongside our finance leadership team, collaborating daily with colleagues in the U.S., Israel, and India. We need someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and a true self‑starter - the kind of person who identifies what needs to get done and makes it happen without waiting for instruction. Long‑term care, nursing home, or healthcare accounting experience is required.

Responsibilities
  • Own the monthly and year‑end close process, ensuring books are closed accurately and on time across multiple entities.
  • Prepare and maintain balance sheets, income statements, and supporting schedules; perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare journal entries, manage the general ledger, and handle intercompany accounting.
  • Oversee and manage the offshore A/P team (India), including reviewing work product, enforcing controls, and driving process improvements.
  • Own the full accounts payable cycle from invoice receipt through payment, ensuring accuracy, proper approvals, and timely processing.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor inquiries and issue resolution.
Treasury & Cash Management
  • Download and reconcile bank transactions; maintain and update cash position reports.
  • Perform bank reconciliations accurately in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
Process Management & Collaboration
  • Partner with external CPA firms on Medicaid and Medicare cost report submissions.
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements across accounting workflows.
  • Support the finance leadership team on ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by CFO.
Qualifications
  • 1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2. Strong technical accounting knowledge including GL, balance sheet, intercompany, and financial statement preparation.
  • 3. Deep accounts payable expertise with experience managing the full AP cycle and supervising AP staff.
  • 4. Good understanding of overall general accounting functions of nursing homes and how it relates to various aspects of AR, AP, PR, GL etc.
  • 5. Able to work in team environment.
  • 6. Advanced Excel skills including Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP required.
  • 7. Sage Accounting, OnCare (Procurement Partners prior) experience strongly preferred.
  • 8. Point Click Care (PCC) software experience strongly preferred.
  • 9. 2–5+ years of accounting experience in long‑term care, skilled nursing, or healthcare required.
  • 10. Highly proficient in cash flow management, modeling, and projections.
  • 11. Familiar with asset‑based lending Borrowing base calculations.
  • 12. Proven ability to manage people and hold a team accountable while also rolling up your sleeves and doing the detail work yourself.
  • 13. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail—nothing slips through the cracks.
  • 14. A proactive, self‑driven work style. You don’t wait to be told what to do; you figure it out and get it done.
